The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly presented a Rs218.84 billion budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.
Finance Minister Muhammad Ali Akhtar presented the budget proposals in the assembly.
The government has proposed Rs25 billion for wheat subsidy. It has also proposed Rs88 billion in federal grants.
Another Rs53.3 billion has been proposed for the Gilgit-Baltistan Stabilization Package.
Development and Non-Development Spending
The budget sets aside Rs43.97 billion for development spending.
It allocates Rs149.87 billion for non-development expenses.
The government has proposed Rs22 billion for wheat procurement. It has also allocated Rs1.48 billion for education.
Meanwhile, the budget includes Rs500 million for local government elections.
Proposed Salary Increase
The government has proposed a 7% increase in salaries for government employees.
It has also proposed a 50% increase in conveyance allowance.
Following the budget session, Speaker Imran Nadeem adjourned the assembly until September 18.
