Thirty-six antiquities stolen from Pakistan and smuggled into the United States have been returned to the Government of Pakistan.
A handover ceremony took place at the New York County District Attorney’s Office. Pakistan’s Consul General in New York, Aamir Ahmed Atozai, signed an agreement for the return of the artifacts.
Ancient Artifacts Returned to Pakistan
The returned collection includes a Grey Schist Figure of a Yakshi. The artifact dates back to the fourth century CE.
The collection also contains 35 Terracotta Fertility Figures. These artifacts date from around 2700 to 3000 BCE.
The artifacts will now be brought back to Pakistan.
Consul General Highlights Cultural Heritage
Consul General Aamir Ahmed Atozai welcomed the legal return of the stolen antiquities.
He said the recovery would help future generations learn about Pakistan’s ancient civilization and cultural heritage.
The return also marks a step toward protecting and restoring Pakistan’s cultural property.
