ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has accused militants based in Afghanistan of carrying out the deadly attack at a police compound in Kohat.
The ministry said Afghan territory was being used by militant groups that pose a direct security threat to Pakistan.
It also called on the Afghan Taliban authorities to take action against militant networks instead of shifting blame to Pakistan.
Pakistan Demands Action Against Terror Networks
The ministry said it was deeply concerned about the use of Afghan territory by militant groups.
It also criticised what it described as a warning of “serious consequences” from an Afghan Taliban spokesperson. The ministry called the warning unacceptable.
According to the statement, condemning the Kohat attack was not enough. Pakistan wants the Afghan authorities to take concrete and verifiable steps against militant networks.
The ministry also urged the Afghan interim government to meet its counterterrorism commitments under the Doha Agreement.
Pakistan Rejects Talks Without Security Measures
Pakistan said verbal expressions of sympathy from Afghanistan must lead to practical action.
The ministry said Pakistan would not accept steps that put the lives of its citizens at risk in the name of negotiations.
It added that Pakistan would take necessary steps under international law to protect its people and sovereignty.
The statement also said Pakistan had the determination and capability to confront terrorism from any source.
Call for International Pressure
The Ministry of Information urged the international community to press the Afghan Taliban to act against militant networks.
Pakistan said such action was needed before the threat spread further across the region.
The statement comes after the deadly attack at the Kohat Police Lines mosque. Reuters reported that Pakistani officials blamed militants using sanctuaries in Afghanistan, while the Taliban government in Kabul rejected the allegation.
