Iran will continue to resist US pressure and will not end the conflict without securing its demands, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said. However, Tehran does not seek an endless war or lengthy negotiations.

In a televised address, Ghalibaf said Iran aims to establish a lasting defensive balance that would deter future aggression. He added that Tehran wants to achieve this goal through negotiations, but it will not agree to end the fighting unless its demands are met.

Qalibaf Challenges US Pressure

According to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, Ghalibaf said deadlines set by Washington had passed without achieving their intended results. He also referred to US efforts to increase economic pressure on Iran.

Despite these measures, Ghalibaf argued that Iran’s political system continued to function. His remarks signalled that Tehran intends to maintain its position despite pressure from Washington.

Iranian Speaker Mocks US Treasury Secretary

Ghalibaf also criticised US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a social media post. He mocked Bessent’s economic predictions and sarcastically suggested that he should receive the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The Iranian parliament speaker argued that Bessent’s predictions about the effects of US pressure had made the concept of time meaningless. His remarks appeared to challenge Washington’s assessment of how quickly economic pressure would affect Iran.

Security Guarantees Remain Central to Iran’s Position

Ghalibaf’s comments indicate that Tehran wants long-term security assurances while resisting pressure to accept a settlement on terms it rejects.

At the same time, his remarks leave room for negotiations as a way to achieve Iran’s stated defensive objectives. However, the prospects for ending the conflict will depend on whether Tehran and Washington can reconcile their demands and reach an acceptable compromise.
