Report by Syed Farzand Ali
Lahore: Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council and Coordinator of Pakistan’s National Peace Committee, Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, has called on the Israeli authorities to immediately release Sheikh Muhammad Hussain, the Grand Mufti of Al-Quds and the Palestinian Territories, following reports that he was forcibly arrested on Friday.
In a statement, Ashrafi strongly condemned the reported detention of Sheikh Muhammad Hussain, describing it as an unacceptable action against a senior religious leader and custodian of one of Islam’s holiest sites.
He urged the Israeli authorities to respect religious freedom, international law, and the rights of religious leaders by ensuring the Mufti’s immediate release.
Ashrafi said that Al-Aqsa Mosque holds immense religious significance for Muslims around the world, warning that actions targeting its religious leadership could further escalate tensions in the region.
He also appealed to the international community, human rights organizations, and global institutions to closely monitor the situation and play an active role in protecting religious freedoms and the rights of Palestinian religious figures.
