ISLAMABAD, — Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has said Pakistan’s state institutions will remain strong and stable if they function in accordance with the Constitution and the rule of law, while emphasizing the need for comprehensive judicial reforms.
Speaking on the country’s governance and justice system, Ashrafi said Pakistan’s constitutional framework provides sufficient strength for national stability, provided it is implemented fairly and consistently.
“If Pakistan’s system is run in accordance with the Constitution and the law, it will never collapse,” he said.
Ashrafi expressed concern over what he described as growing public dissatisfaction with the judicial system, noting that many ordinary legal cases remain unresolved for years.
“It is regrettable that the greatest disappointment today is with the judicial system, where even routine cases remain pending for long periods,” he said.

He stressed that meaningful institutional reform should begin with the judiciary, arguing that an efficient and transparent justice system is essential for strengthening public confidence in state institutions.
The Pakistan Ulema Council chairman urged authorities to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution and the law while improving access to timely justice for citizens.
According to Ashrafi, judicial efficiency and the prompt resolution of legal disputes are critical for maintaining national stability, strengthening democratic institutions, and reinforcing public trust in governance.

He added that reforms based on constitutional principles and equal application of the law would contribute to long-term peace, institutional credibility, and sustainable national development.
