TOKYO, — The Pakistan-Japan Friendship Festival 2026 officially opened at Tokyo’s famous Ueno Park, highlighting the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Japan through culture, music, cuisine, and people-to-people engagement.
The opening ceremony attracted senior Japanese officials, diplomats, members of the Pakistani community, business leaders, and a large number of Japanese visitors.
The festival was jointly inaugurated by Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Tomoaki Shimada, Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Member Hiroyuki Nakayama, and Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in Japan, Hussain Haider.
Japanese Leaders Highlight Strong Bilateral Relations
Addressing the ceremony, Parliamentary Vice Minister Tomoaki Shimada praised the decades-long friendship between Japan and Pakistan.
He said people-to-people exchanges and cultural cooperation continue to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Shimada also referred to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Japan during Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, noting that her meetings, particularly with the Pakistani community, further enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Cultural Diplomacy
Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires Hussain Haider described the festival as an important platform for promoting cultural understanding, friendship, and closer public engagement.
He appreciated the support of the Japanese government, the organizers, and the Pakistani community for making the annual event a continued success.
Haider said cultural diplomacy remains an effective tool for strengthening relations between Pakistan and Japan.
