OIC Appoints Mauritania’s Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as New Secretary General

JEDDAH: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has appointed Mauritania’s Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed as its new Secretary General.

Member states reached the decision by consensus during an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers in Jeddah.

The meeting also reviewed Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Pakistan Represents Its Position at OIC Meeting

Pakistan took part in the extraordinary OIC meeting in Jeddah.

Permanent Representative Syed Muhammad Fawad Sher represented Pakistan on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Foreign ministers and senior delegations from OIC member states attended the meeting.

The participants discussed the situation in Palestine and other issues affecting the Muslim world.

Pakistan Raises Kashmir Issue

Fawad Sher also spoke about the Kashmir dispute during the meeting.

He praised the OIC for its continued support for the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination.

He urged the organization to increase its efforts for the people of Kashmir.

Pakistan has consistently called for international support for the right to self-determination in Kashmir.

OIC Condemns Israeli Actions in Palestine

The foreign ministers also adopted a comprehensive resolution on Palestine.

The resolution condemned Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

It strongly criticized land seizures and the expansion of Israeli settlements.

The resolution also condemned settler violence against Palestinians.

In addition, it rejected annexation and the forced displacement of Palestinian people.

Call for Political and Diplomatic Action

The OIC called on member states to take legal, political and diplomatic steps.

These steps should help stop Israel’s expansionist policies.

They should also protect Palestinian rights and prevent further displacement.

The resolution stressed the need for stronger international action.

Meanwhile, the OIC continues to support efforts aimed at protecting Palestinian rights.

New OIC Leadership

The appointment of Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed marks a new phase for the OIC.

He is a senior Mauritanian diplomat and has held several important international positions.
