ISLAMABAD, The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a detailed 37-page judgment on a petition against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned march to Islamabad on September 27.
The court ruled that any activity that violates citizens’ fundamental rights would also violate the Constitution.
Court Protects Citizens’ Fundamental Rights
The IHC said authorities must protect the fundamental rights of Islamabad’s residents.
It warned that those responsible for violating these rights could face legal action.
The court also said political parties have no legal right to block public roads and highways during protests.
The judgment also addressed the use of government resources for political activities.
Government Resources Cannot Support the March
The court directed provincial governments not to use public funds or official resources for the Islamabad march.
It also barred the use of government vehicles and machinery to facilitate the protest.
The court said authorities should establish an immediate helpline for government employees who receive illegal orders.
The judgment also warned public officials against violating the Constitution or the law.
Public Officials Must Follow Their Oath
According to the ruling, a public office holder who violates the Constitution or law would breach the oath of office.
The court said officials could face consequences if their actions result in violations of citizens’ fundamental rights.
The IHC also stressed that its orders must be followed.
Officials responsible for violating the court’s directions or citizens’ rights could face legal action.
The judgment comes as PTI plans a nationwide protest, including a march towards Islamabad, on September 27. PTI has said the protest seeks the release of party founder Imran Khan and calls for the supremacy of the Constitution.
