NEW YORK — Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has arrived in New York for the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, received Dar. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh also welcomed him.
Consul General New York Aamer Ahmed Atozai and officials from Pakistan’s UN mission and New York consulate were also present.
Dar Begins High-Level UNGA Programme
Dar has a busy schedule during the UN General Assembly high-level week.
He will attend several ministerial forums. He will also present Pakistan’s views on key issues before the UN.
His agenda covers bilateral, regional and international priorities.
The foreign minister will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from several countries.
In addition, Dar will join Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at several high-level meetings and other diplomatic events.
Focus on Kashmir and Palestine
Dar is scheduled to attend an OIC Contact Group meeting on Jammu and Kashmir.
He will present Pakistan’s position on the right to self-determination of Kashmiris.
Meanwhile, Dar will take part in several meetings on Palestine. These include a meeting of eight Arab and Islamic countries.
He will also attend a ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
Meetings on Global Issues
Dar will also address a high-level UN Security Council briefing on artificial intelligence.
He is scheduled to attend a meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.
Furthermore, he will chair a meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organisation Council of Ministers.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said Dar will use his meetings to highlight Pakistan’s efforts for regional and international peace.
He will also exchange views with other countries on major regional and global challenges.
