ISLAMABAD: Pakistan observed Defence and Martyrs Day on September 6 with solemn ceremonies, Quran recitations and special prayers across the country.
The day began with Quran Khawani and prayers at mosques. Religious scholars prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs. They also prayed for Pakistan’s security, stability and prosperity.
Religious scholars said the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs remain a guiding light for the nation. They said those who gave their lives for the country’s defence and peace remain a source of pride.
They also stressed national unity to protect Pakistan’s security and stability.
Ceremony held in Muzaffarabad
A dignified ceremony took place at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
A Pakistan Army contingent presented a guard of honour at the memorial. AJK Prime Minister Iftikhar Gilani also visited the site with senior military and civil officials.
Gilani laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha. Participants later prayed for the security, progress and prosperity of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. They also prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks.
Tributes across Punjab
Defence and Martyrs Day ceremonies took place in several Punjab cities.

In Lahore, a Pakistan Rangers Punjab contingent presented a guard of honour at Mazar-e-Iqbal. The Corps Commander Lahore laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha.
Similar ceremonies took place in Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Bahawalpur.
In Multan, a Pakistan Army contingent presented a salute at the Martyrs’ Memorial. The Commander Southern Command laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha.
In Rawalpindi and Gujranwala, Army contingents also presented salutes and laid floral wreaths. Senior military officers, civil officials, soldiers and other dignitaries attended the events.
A similar ceremony took place at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Bahawalpur.
Peshawar also honours martyrs
Peshawar also hosted a solemn Defence and Martyrs Day ceremony.
Senior military officers, civil administration officials, soldiers and other dignitaries attended the event. An Army contingent presented a salute at the Martyrs’ Memorial.
Senior officers laid floral wreaths and offered prayers for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks.
Other events also took place at educational institutions across Peshawar. Students joined flag-hoisting ceremonies and paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces.
Nation remembers the fallen
The ceremonies highlighted the sacrifices of soldiers who lost their lives while defending Pakistan.
Participants also expressed solidarity with the families of the martyrs. They reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to remembering those sacrifices.
