ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Sunday.
The two foreign ministers discussed regional and international developments. They also reviewed matters of mutual interest, particularly at multilateral forums, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said.
The call came as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye continue to strengthen strategic coordination under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
Follow-up on Makkah Defence Agreement
Dar and Prince Faisal also discussed progress on understandings reached during the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee in Istanbul.
The committee met on August 31 under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. Senior foreign and defence officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye took part in the meeting.
The three countries have agreed to strengthen cooperation under the agreement. They also decided to establish a permanent secretariat in Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan will provide the first secretary general for an initial three-year term. The new structure aims to improve coordination and strengthen collective defence cooperation among the three countries.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain close coordination
During the telephone conversation, Dar and Prince Faisal agreed to remain in close contact.
They also agreed to continue consultations on regional and international issues. In addition, both sides will follow up on the understandings reached through the Makkah Defence framework.
The latest discussion highlights the growing strategic and diplomatic coordination between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
