LAHORE: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for five days.
The move comes amid concerns over public safety and possible terrorism threats.
The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification on the restrictions.
Under the order, gatherings of five or more people are banned in public places.
The ban also covers roads, highways and open areas across Punjab.
In addition, rallies, public meetings, processions, sit-ins and protests are prohibited during the five-day period.
Authorities Cite Terrorism Threat
According to the notification, law enforcement and intelligence agencies have reported possible terrorism threats.
The reports relate to public gatherings across Punjab.
Therefore, the provincial government imposed restrictions under Section 144 to maintain law and order.
Authorities said the measure aims to reduce security risks during the current period.
Weddings and Religious Services Exempt
However, the order does not apply to certain social and religious activities.
Wedding ceremonies are exempt from the restrictions.
Funeral prayers and burials are also allowed.
In addition, prayers at mosques and churches will continue without the new restrictions.
Official duties at government and semi-government institutions are also exempt.
Court proceedings will likewise continue under the notification.
The Section 144 order will remain in force across Punjab for five days.
