RIYADH: Muslim World League Secretary-General Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa has met leading Somali scholars in Mogadishu.
Al-Issa also chairs the Organization of Muslim Scholars.
The meeting brought together scholars for an intellectual discussion in the Somali capital.
The Muslim World League said the meeting focused on ways to counter extremist ideas.
The group also held a forum titled “Somalia at the Heart of the Islamic World.”
Scholars Discuss Ways to Stop Extremism
During the forum, scholars discussed the threat posed by extremist ideas.
They said such ideas are not part of the sound Islamic principles of the Somali people.
The scholars stressed the need to raise public awareness about the dangers of extremism.
They also called for stronger efforts to stop extremist ideas from spreading.
In addition, the scholars praised Al-Issa’s address at the gathering.
His speech outlined an Islamic and intellectual approach to countering extremism.
He also presented proposals to expand cooperation among Muslim scholars and intellectuals.
Muslim World League and Somali Scholars Plan Joint Project
The meeting ended with an agreement to develop a joint project.
The project will include several programs and initiatives.
These efforts will aim to strengthen cooperation between the Muslim World League and Somali scholars.
The two sides are expected to finalize details of the project soon.
The initiative comes as Muslim scholars seek stronger cooperation to address extremism through education, awareness and intellectual engagement.
