NEW YORK — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He will address the UN General Assembly on September 25. During his speech, the prime minister will present Pakistan’s position on the changing regional and global security situation.
Focus on Dialogue and Peace
Shehbaz Sharif is expected to stress the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
He will also highlight Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts to reduce regional tensions. In addition, he will present Pakistan’s position on ways to promote peace and stability.
According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan will also focus on sustainable development, climate change, counter-terrorism, Islamophobia and global economic challenges.
Pakistan’s Global Priorities
The prime minister will raise key international issues during his UNGA engagements. These include regional security, global economic challenges and climate change.
Furthermore, he will draw international attention to the situations in Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, according to the Foreign Office.
Pakistan will also reaffirm the importance of multilateral cooperation and peaceful solutions to international disputes.
Bilateral Meetings in New York
During the UNGA week, Shehbaz Sharif will participate in several high-level meetings. He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and the UN Secretary-General.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has also arrived in New York for the UNGA high-level week. He is scheduled to attend ministerial meetings and hold bilateral discussions with foreign counterparts.
The prime minister’s visit comes as world leaders gather in New York for discussions on regional conflicts, global security and other international challenges.
