ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Thursday inaugurated Sky47 Data Center – Karakoram One, a major digital infrastructure project aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s capabilities in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and high-performance computing.
During the inauguration ceremony, officials briefed the prime minister on the facility’s capabilities, stating that the data center will provide a secure foundation for cloud computing, data hosting, and a wide range of digital services across the country.
According to the briefing, Sky47 Karakoram One has been designed to support advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing, marking an important step toward Pakistan’s technological self-reliance and digital transformation.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the facility as an impressive achievement and praised the team behind the project for completing it within a short timeframe.
“This state-of-the-art data center is remarkable and reflects extraordinary commitment, technical expertise, and determination,” the prime minister said.

He also commended Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his leadership and acknowledged the contribution of technology partner ZTE in the successful completion of the project.
Sharif said that major national achievements become possible when challenges are met with determination and unity, adding that initiatives like Sky47 represent Pakistan’s future in digital innovation and national development.
He further stated that the project would strengthen the country’s digital resilience and contribute to secure technological infrastructure.

Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the inauguration marks the beginning of a new era of artificial intelligence in Pakistan.
“This project opens the doors to a new digital economy. It will enable Pakistan to make better use of its human resources and technological capabilities while transforming data into real economic value,” she said.
She added that future global competition in artificial intelligence would depend on secure, cost-effective, and efficient digital infrastructure, making projects such as Sky47 strategically important for Pakistan’s long-term economic growth.
