Pakistan’s first Ambassador to Armenia, Shafqat Ali Khan, has presented his Letters of Credence to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan in Yerevan.
The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace. It marks an important step in Pakistan-Armenia relations after the two countries established diplomatic ties in August 2025.
Armenian President Welcomes Pakistani Envoy
President Khachaturyan welcomed Ambassador Khan and congratulated him on his appointment. He also wished him success in his new diplomatic role.
The Armenian president expressed support for efforts to expand relations with Pakistan. He also highlighted the scope for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Ambassador Khan conveyed the greetings of Pakistan’s President and Prime Minister to President Khachaturyan. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to stronger relations with Armenia.
Both sides discussed ways to expand bilateral engagement. Key areas include trade, investment, education and culture. They also highlighted people-to-people contacts and wider economic cooperation.
Meetings With Armenian Foreign Ministry Officials
During his visit to Yerevan, Ambassador Khan also met Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
Mirzoyan congratulated Khan and wished him success in his diplomatic mission. The two officials reviewed the bilateral agenda and discussed ways to expand cooperation.
They also exchanged views on regional and international developments. Armenian Public Radio reported that the meeting focused on prospects for cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral forums.
Khan also met Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan. He handed over a copy of his Letters of Credence during the meeting.
Safaryan described the establishment of diplomatic relations with Pakistan as an important policy decision by both countries. The officials discussed further cooperation through bilateral and multilateral platforms.
New Phase in Pakistan-Armenia Relations
Pakistan and Armenia established diplomatic relations on August 31, 2025. Their foreign ministers signed a joint communiqué in Tianjin, China, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
The agreement called for the exchange of diplomatic representatives. It also set the framework for cooperation based on mutual respect, sovereignty, equality and peaceful coexistence.

Ambassador Khan’s appointment represents Pakistan’s first ambassadorial-level representation in Armenia. He is based in Abu Dhabi and concurrently serves as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
The latest diplomatic engagements point to efforts by both countries to build stronger political, economic and people-to-people ties.
