UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan strongly responded to India during a session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), asserting that Jammu and Kashmir is neither an integral part of India nor an internal matter, and accusing New Delhi of disregarding UN resolutions on the longstanding dispute.
Speaking on behalf of Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Counsellor Saima Saleem said it was “ironic” for India to lecture others on peace while, according to Pakistan, continuing policies that undermine regional stability.
Saleem noted that India itself had originally brought the Kashmir issue before the UN Security Council, but was now distancing itself from the Council’s resolutions. She also alleged that human rights violations continue in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
“The international status of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be altered by India’s unilateral claims,” she said, adding that the dispute remains subject to international attention and relevant UN resolutions.
The Pakistani diplomat also criticized India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a violation of international law. She emphasized that the waters of the Indus River are a source of life for millions of people and should never be used as a political or military tool.

In addition, Saleem alleged that terrorism networks linked to India have expanded beyond the region and claimed that Islamophobia has become embedded in state policies under what she described as Hindutva ideology.
India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and has rejected Pakistan’s allegations, while also defending its position on security and counterterrorism.
The exchange reflects the continuing diplomatic tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors over Kashmir, water-sharing issues, and regional security.
