Palestinians held a mass funeral for around 100 people in Gaza City on Saturday.
The group included about 70 children, according to Palestinian reports.
Families and local residents gathered in the Zeitoun neighborhood, east of Gaza City, for funeral prayers and burial.
The bodies came from areas where rescuers continue to clear rubble left by Israeli attacks.
Bodies Recovered From Destroyed Buildings
Gaza rescue teams have recovered hundreds of bodies from destroyed buildings in recent weeks.
Reports say teams have pulled around 800 to 900 bodies from the rubble across the Gaza Strip.
However, the recovery work remains extremely difficult. Heavy machinery remains in short supply, while large amounts of debris cover many areas.
As a result, rescuers cannot reach many sites quickly.
Thousands May Remain Under the Rubble
Gaza’s Civil Defense has warned that thousands of Palestinians may still lie beneath destroyed buildings.
Local authorities have put the number of people trapped under the rubble at close to 9,000.
Meanwhile, Gaza officials have warned that the lack of heavy equipment makes the search even harder. The Gaza Government Media Office recently said thousands of bodies remain under the rubble across the territory.
Families Still Wait for Missing Relatives
The continuing recovery effort has also brought painful news for many families.
Some families have waited for years to learn what happened to relatives who disappeared during the fighting.
In August, Gaza authorities held another large funeral after recovering the remains of 112 Palestinians from rubble. The group included 40 children.
Therefore, each recovery operation gives some families a chance to bury their loved ones, even as many others continue to wait.
Recovery Efforts Continue
Gaza’s Civil Defense and other local teams continue to search damaged areas for human remains.
However, the scale of destruction makes the work slow and dangerous.
The United Nations has also documented ongoing efforts to recover human remains from destroyed homes and buildings in Gaza.
The latest mass funeral highlights the continuing humanitarian impact of the conflict and the large number of people still missing beneath Gaza’s rubble.
