China and Pakistan have celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations with a gala concert against the illuminated Badaling section of the Great Wall of China.

The 2026 Beijing International Great Wall Concert, titled “An Ode to Ironclad Friendship,” brought together traditional Chinese music and Pakistani Sufi Qawwali at Wangjing Square in Beijing.

The event took place on Sunday as part of celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Music Highlights Pakistan-China Friendship

The concert used music and dance to highlight the longstanding cultural links between Pakistan and China.

Traditional Chinese melodies filled the venue alongside the powerful sounds of Pakistani Sufi Qawwali.

The event brought together senior diplomats, former Pakistani foreign secretaries and ambassadors, Chinese dignitaries and artists.

The Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing and the China International Cultural Communication Center (CICCC) jointly organized the concert. The People’s Government of Yanqing District supported the event.

Great Wall Holds Special Meaning for Pakistan

Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, welcomed the guests at the gathering.

He highlighted the historical importance of the Great Wall as a symbol of the close ties between the two countries.

The Badaling section between Watchtowers 6 and 7 has particular significance for Pakistan. The section underwent restoration in 1989 with support from the Government of Pakistan.

Hashmi said music gives voice to emotion, while dance gives it form and movement.

He added that the combination of both art forms turns cultural heritage into a living experience rather than something that people simply remember.

Cultural Diplomacy Strengthens Bilateral Ties

The gala also highlighted the role of cultural diplomacy in strengthening relations between Pakistan and China.

Both countries have maintained close diplomatic and economic cooperation for decades. Their cultural exchanges have also become an important part of the bilateral relationship.

The Great Wall concert provided a platform for artists from both traditions to showcase their shared appreciation for music and cultural heritage.

The event also reflected the broader celebrations surrounding the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations.

A Celebration of Shared Heritage

The choice of the Great Wall as the setting added historical and symbolic value to the event.

The illuminated Badaling landscape provided a striking backdrop as Chinese and Pakistani artistic traditions came together.

The concert showed how cultural events can support people-to-people ties while complementing diplomatic and economic cooperation.

As Pakistan and China mark 75 years of formal diplomatic relations, the gala offered another example of how music and cultural exchange can reinforce their long-standing partnership
