Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman and National Paigham-e-Aman Committee Coordinator Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has received the Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation 2026.
The award was presented at a ceremony at the historic Lambeth Palace in London on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The award recognizes Ashrafi’s long-standing work for peace, reconciliation and interfaith cooperation.
Recognition for Peace and Dialogue
The award also recognizes his efforts to promote religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.
Ashrafi has worked for dialogue between Muslim communities and other religious groups for several decades. He has also spoken against extremism, terrorism and sectarian violence.
His work has included efforts to promote tolerance and protect the rights of religious minorities.
The Hubert Walter Award is part of the Lambeth Awards. It recognizes outstanding contributions to reconciliation and interfaith cooperation.
Role in Pakistan’s Peace Efforts
Ashrafi also serves as coordinator of Pakistan’s National Paigham-e-Aman Committee.

Earlier OIC Peace Award
Ashrafi has also received the OIC Global Peace Award for his work in peace, harmony and cooperation.
The two awards represent separate international recognitions of his efforts in religious dialogue and peacebuilding.
Ashrafi has remained active in international religious and interfaith forums. His work has focused on promoting moderation, dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
The latest award has also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to promote interfaith harmony and counter religious extremism.
