The Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Lahore, Mehran Mohadfar, has reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace, negotiations, and diplomacy while expressing concerns over the reliability of the United States in regional matters.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of senior journalists in Lahore, the Consul General appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic role and confirmed that, following the recent ceasefire agreement, negotiations are set to resume in Islamabad from April 10.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Role Praised

Mehran Mohadfar paid tribute to the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, acknowledging their efforts in defusing tensions and preventing a larger regional conflict.

He stated that Pakistan’s timely diplomatic engagement played a crucial role in facilitating the ceasefire and opening the door for renewed dialogue.

Commitment to Peaceful Resolution

Reiterating Iran’s position, the Consul General emphasized that war was imposed on Iran, but the country has consistently chosen negotiation and diplomacy over confrontation.

“Iran has always preferred peaceful dialogue and diplomatic solutions,” he said, adding that Tehran remains committed to resolving all disputes through constructive engagement.

Criticism of US and Nuclear Dispute

The Consul General criticized the United States, describing it as an unreliable actor in international agreements. He pointed to the withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action during the tenure of Donald Trump as a major factor behind escalating regional tensions.

He also raised concerns over what he termed as “double standards” in nuclear accountability, alleging that Israel is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), yet faces no scrutiny over its nuclear capabilities, while Iran continues to face international pressure.

Hope for Lasting Ceasefire

Mehran Mohadfar expressed optimism that the ongoing two-week temporary ceasefire could evolve into a permanent peace agreement through successful negotiations.

He highlighted that talks previously mediated by Oman had made progress but were disrupted due to rising tensions.

“Iran seeks stability in the region and believes dialogue is the only viable path forward,” he noted.

Journalists’ Delegation and Discussions

The meeting was attended by a delegation of senior journalists, including Nazir Bhatti, Syed Farzand Ali, Adnan Sheikh, Omar Daraz, Hamza Khurshid, Asif Mahmood, Tajammal Bukhari, Rana Kamran, Mian Shoaib, Shafiq Sharif, Zahid Abbas, Ansar Zahid, Mian Ijaz, Azam Malik, Kashif Suleman, Adeel Mustafa, and Umm Farwah.

During the session, participants held detailed discussions on recent tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel, as well as Iran’s nuclear program and the broader regional security situation.

Tribute to Iranian Leadership

The journalists’ delegation also offered Fateha for the departed soul of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, honoring his legacy and contributions.

Acknowledgment of Pakistan’s Support

The Consul General concluded by expressing gratitude to the government and people of Pakistan for their solidarity with Iran during challenging times.

He emphasized that such support reflects the strong and enduring relationship between the two nations.
