Pakistan wants peaceful and respectful relations with its neighbours but will not compromise on national defence, Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said in Paris.
She made the remarks while addressing a reception at the Embassy of Pakistan to mark Defence and Martyrs Day.
The ambassador said Pakistan believes in stronger international cooperation to promote shared goals of peace, security and development.
She also stressed Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful relations based on mutual respect. However, she said the country would continue to protect its national security and sovereignty.
Ambassador pays tribute to martyrs and veterans
Baloch paid tribute to the martyrs and veterans of Pakistan’s armed forces.
She praised their services and sacrifices and said the armed forces remain guarantors of Pakistan’s national security.
The ambassador said the Pakistani nation stands alongside its armed forces and honours those who have defended the country.
The reception brought together Senator Allizard, members of the diplomatic corps, military officers and friends of Pakistan.

Baloch recalls Pakistan’s military history
The ambassador also recalled the courage displayed by Pakistan’s armed forces during the 1965 war.
She referred to the military’s response to what Pakistan describes as Indian aggression in May last year. Baloch highlighted the armed forces’ resolve, strategy and professional capabilities during the confrontation.
She also stressed Pakistan’s contribution to regional and global peace. In particular, she highlighted the country’s role in United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Pakistan has remained an active contributor to UN peacekeeping operations over several decades.
Fight against terrorism has expanded national defence
Baloch said Pakistan’s national defence has expanded beyond conventional warfare over the past two decades.
She pointed to the country’s long fight against terrorism.

According to the ambassador, Pakistan’s armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians have made major sacrifices during this campaign.
She said these sacrifices demonstrate the country’s continued commitment to national security and stability.
Pakistan backs international cooperation
The ambassador said Pakistan wants to build partnerships that support peace, security and development around the world.
She called for stronger international cooperation to address shared challenges.
Baloch also stressed Pakistan’s desire for peaceful relations with neighbouring states.
However, she made clear that Pakistan would continue to protect its sovereignty and national interests.
The ambassador’s remarks came as Pakistan continues to highlight diplomacy, multilateral cooperation and national defence as key elements of its foreign policy.
